Artist Analysis
Sakir Yildirim’s images feature a human figure distorted in one of two ways either through ‘liquifying’ the person’s body and stretching it or by cutting strips and flipping or mirroring them.
The subject matter within the images is observed directly and the original images are either wide shots of the subject walking or medium shots of the person’s head and torso. His images are very abstract and distorted. He created his crawler series to play around with movement captured in an image. He uses generally bright colours; however, he sometimes mutes these colours in the editing process to create a more cinematic looking image. The liquify effect creates an interesting texture and shape within the image.
He edited these images using photoshop and he has even created a tutorial on how he made his ‘crawler’ images with Adobe. His primary method for creating the images in his ‘crawler’ series is using the liquify tool, he also uses various transform tools including warp and distort. For his ‘flip and mirror’ images he simply selects strips and flips the selected area.
These images feel quite happy and amusing whilst at the same time creating a surreal atmosphere.
